The Centre was established in 1994 to provide a focus for the development of Self Managed Learning. After nearly twenty years of the successful growth of SML, it seemed wise to provide a Centre which could:-
SML is a unique approach to learning and development, created in the mid-70s by Dr Ian Cunningham, which offers the flexibility demanded by individuals and organisations for the 21st Century. It has been applied and rigorously evaluated in a wide variety of programmes: In-company, open public, and qualification programmes (from Diploma to Masters level).
Is a company limited by guarantee and a non-profit organisation. The members of the Board act as 'guarantors'. They are Liz Barlow (treasurer), Ben Bennett (events), Ian Cunningham (chair and publications), Graham Dawes(newsletter), Anne Gimson (secretary), and Rob Shorrick. The centre is dedicated to the continuing development of the methods and applications of SML through research, writing, publishing and the provision of a network, workshops and conferences.
For individuals and representatives of organisations who wish to be actively involved in the development of SML, the centre for self managed learning network is the ideal arena. Applications are invited from individuals and organisations with little or no knowledge of SML who want to know more; experienced participants on SML programmes, and those who are practitioners.
