Organisational Case Studies

To illustrate what has been achieved through SML we have included four brief case studies.

We have chosen examples from different sectors. Each programme had different aims and objectives and, in some cases, different participant groups. This is to ensure that we provide you with a range of examples in which our approach has enabled the organisation to achieve significant change.

All the case studies are summaries of chapters from a book “Self Managed Learning in Action” edited by Ian Cunningham, Ben Bennett and Graham Dawes to be published during 2000.

Each case study follows the same format, which will hopefully assist the reader. The format is as follows:

CONTEXT:

Brief outline of the organisation and the circumstances which led to the programme.

AIMS:

An indication of the organisation’s aims and objectives in sponsoring the programme.

PROCESS:

The key steps that were taken in designing, developing and rolling out the programme.

EVALUATION AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

Highlighting the methods that were used to evaluate the programme and summary points on the achievements.

QUOTES:

Pertinent quotes from participants or sponsors as part of qualitative research.
